Engineering results are not verified
The numbers this site produces are the output of a computer program. They are not a structural calculation, not design documentation, and not engineering advice. Never use them as the sole basis for a decision that affects the safety of a structure, a person, or property. Always have the result checked independently by a qualified engineer.
What this site is
Shape Moment is a free educational and reference tool that computes geometric properties of plane cross-sections. It is provided by a private individual as a personal project.
It is not a certified engineering product, has not passed any conformity assessment, and is not covered by any professional indemnity.
No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied.
No promise is made that the calculations are accurate, complete or fit for any particular purpose, that the site will be available or uninterrupted, or that errors will be corrected.
Numerical methods, floating-point arithmetic and triangulation of complex outlines can all introduce error. Verify anything that matters.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator accepts no liability for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, financial, material or reputational — arising from use of this site or reliance on its results.
You use the site at your own risk and are solely responsible for verifying every result before acting on it.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where the law does not allow it to be excluded or limited.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for the input you provide and for checking that the model you build matches the real section.
You are responsible for applying the correct standards, load cases, safety factors and material properties. This site does none of that for you — it computes geometry only.
Intellectual property
The formulas and methods are standard engineering knowledge and belong to no one. The text, layout and source code of the site belong to its author.
Results you compute are yours to use freely, including commercially, subject to the disclaimer above.
